              NOREEN LARINDE IS A PAINTER AND FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHER, WITH EXTENSIVE PREPARATION: BFA AND MFA DEGREES IN PAINTING AND DRAWING AND A PH.D IN ART HISTORY.  SHE HAS TAUGHT ART HISTORY IN CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITIES, WITH SPECIALTIES IN MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART, AS WELL AS THE CULTURES OF EAST ASIA, ESPECIALLY JAPAN.  SHE TRAVELED EXTENSIVELY, GATHERING VISUAL MATERIALS WITH HER CAMERA SO THAT SHE IS A SEASONED PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER.  THESE AND SIMILAR IMAGES WERE THE INSPIRATION FOR HER PAINTINGS, WHICH CAN BE SEEN IN THE WEBSITE:  www.noreen-fine-artist.net. 

             HER ART HAS GERMINATED FROM 2 IMPORTANT INFLUENCES:  FIRST OF ALL, THE ITALIAN RENAISSANCE FIGURATIVE TRADITION, ESPECIALLY THE FRESCOES, WHICH CELEBRATE THE RATIONAL FACULTY THROUGH THE DEPICTION OF THE HUMAN FIGURE TOTALLY IN COMMAND OF THE SELF.  SECONDLY, THAT OF JAPANESE NOH THEATRE, WHICH EXPRESSES THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE EXTERNALS OF APPEARANCE AND THE DARK, HIDDEN, MYSTERIOUS INNER NATURE OF THE SELF, ESPECIALLY WOMAN, WHO IS SEEN AS UNKNOWABLE  THROUGH RATIONAL PROCESSES, AND CAN BE GLIMPSED ONLY THROUGH THE ARTISTIC EXPERIENCE.  THESE OPPOSING PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITIONS ARE COMBINED IN HER ART TO EXPRESS THE COMPLEXITY OF HUMAN EXISTENCE.
